Technology as if People mattered!
I work with individuals, communities, groups and organizations, supporting them in understanding, choosing and using appropriate and affordable computer and network technologies. I bring to this work fourteen years of diverse technology experience in industry and academia.
My services include:
Teaching, Tutoring and Mentoring - designed-to-order classes, workshops and seminars for groups and organizations and one-on-one mentoring for individuals.
Information Technology Consulting - assistance with choosing, configuring and using diverse software, hardware, network technology and related systems.
Web application and site design and development - specializing in Open Source Web Standards based projects using the Zope web application platform, the Plone content management system and the python programming language, as well as the WordPress blog/site platform.
My Plone-based work includes the Hawai'i County Department of Research and Development, the Hawai'i County Resource Center, Puna Kamali'i Flowers, the Hawai'i County Mass Transit Agency, Hawai'i SEED, the Hawai'i island Know Your Farmer Alliance, and the Hilo Bay Watershed Advisory Group.
Samples of my Zope-based work include Friends of the South Fork Kings, Growing Through It, Karuna Arts, and this site.
Samples of sites I maintain and enhance that are not Zope or Plone-based (yet!) include American River Watershed Group, Castleblock alternative building materials, and Punaweb community portal.
- I also offer customized issue tracker development (trouble ticket systems, bug trackers, etc.) based on the Roundup project.
Software Testing - I am an experienced consultant and contractor in the field of software quality assurance and testing.
Hosting services (in collaboration with Arashi Enterprises) - we offer small and medium scale, open-source web, e-mail and mailing list hosting services for individual, grassroots, non-profit and corporate clients, including affordable Zope and Plone hosting. Details available on request.
I emphasize approaches and systems that:
Are enabling and empowering for the people using them.
Favor freely available, community-created and supported open source software and non-proprietary, open standards systems.
Maximize accessibility for those with limited technological means and/or particular physical needs.
Re-use and recycle existing equipment and technology as much as possible.
